Head Of Student Executive Board Of University Of Indonesia Makes Sure Not To Delete The 'Jokowi King Of Lip Service' Post

JAKARTA - The University of Indonesia Student Executive Board (BEM UI) has confirmed that they will not delete or take down the post of President Joko Widodo's meme 'The King of Lip Service'.

"We won't take down the post (social media)", said BEM UI Chairperson Leon Alvinda Putra in a voice recording to VOI, Jakarta, Tuesday, June 29.

Because he said, what was conveyed by his party was not without basis. Leon said that he gave criticism to President Joko Widodo because it had a basis and went through a study.

"Because we have a basis, have studied issues that we oversee, those issues that we reject", said Leon.

Leon said that it had even been conveyed in a meeting with the rectorate. In addition, during the meeting, they also conveyed the reasons for criticizing President Joko Widodo.

Previously, BEM UI was a trending topic on Twitter after posting a satirical meme of President Jokowi. In the meme uploaded by the official account @BEMUI_Official, BEM UI dubbed President Jokowi as 'The King of Lip Service'.

The meme highlights the paradox of Jokowi's statements and attitudes during his tenure so far. The 7th President of the Republic of Indonesia is considered to have often sold out sweet promises, but they are not in line with reality. Starting from longing for demonstrations, revising the Constitution of electronic information and transaction (ITE), strengthening the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK), and a series of other promises.

Instead of getting support, BEM UI was called by the rectorate. The administrators were asked for information and explanations about the memes uploaded on social media.

The UI Chancellor then summoned a number of BEM UI administrators via letter number: 915/UN2.RI.KMHS/PDP.00.04.00/2021 which was signed by the UI Director of Student Affairs, Tito Latif Indra.

Leon Alvinda Putra previously said the upload was a criticism of President Joko Widodo. They think that the President often makes statements that contradict the reality on the ground.
