The Pontianak Mayor's Swab Test Result Confirms He Is Exposed To COVID-19 After Suffering A Fever

PONTIANAK - The Mayor of Pontianak, West Kalimantan, Edi Rusdi Kamtono, was confirmed positive for COVID-19 from the results of a swab test.

"On Saturday night (12/6) I had a fever, and this morning a swab test was carried out which was confirmed positive for COVID-19", said Edi Rusdi Kamtono, quoted by Antara, Tuesday, June 15.

He explained that he is currently undergoing self-isolation after being confirmed positive for COVID-19.

"As long as I am in self-isolation, the task of the government is represented by the Deputy Mayor of Pontianak. Please pray for me to recover quickly, and hopefully, we are all given strength and protected from COVID-19", he said.

Edi urges the people of Pontianak City to be patient and restrain themselves in order to strictly succeed the PPKM (Enforcement of Community Activity Restrictions) which starts on June 14, 2021, until the next 14 days.

"By continuing to apply the 5M health protocols, such as wearing a mask, diligently washing hands with soap, keeping a distance, staying away from crowds and always maintaining body stamina, because currently, the infection rate is very high", he said.

Previously, the Pontianak City Government issued Circular Letter (SE) Number 445/19/general/year 2021 dated June 10, 2021, regarding the implementation of PPKM in Pontianak City effective from June 14, 2021, until the next 14 days.

In the circular letter, it is stipulated that the operational time of the place of business is limited to 21.00 p.m. local time with a tolerance limit at 22.00 p.m. local time. Especially for shopping centers and malls, operating hours are limited to 21.00 p.m.

"We ask that our place of business is obliged to implement health protocols and limit the number of visitors to no more than 50 percent of the available capacity", said Edi Rusdi Kamtono, who is also the Head of the Pontianak City COVID-19 Task Force.

PPKM is strictly enforced due to an increase in COVID-19 cases, especially those with symptoms, the Bed Occupancy Rate (BOR) or hospital occupancy rate is also above 80 percent. Then the number of patients who died also increased.

"After 14 days of strict PPKM implementation, we will evaluate again whether there is a decrease in cases or not", said Edi.
