SAMPANG - The government has changed the standards for the development of regional roads through the 2025 Regional Road Presidential Decree. If previously many sections only had a width of three to four meters, now the road is built with a width of seven meters so that two vehicles can cross safely.

Minister of Public Works Dody Hanggodo said the change was a direct order from President Prabowo Subianto.

One example is the Gedundung-Beringin Kuning section in Sampang Regency, which was built along 1.5 kilometers with a project value of around Rp. 14 billion.

"Mr. President from the beginning directed that the local road that was built could be passed by two vehicles in parallel. Therefore, the width was made seven meters," said Dody, Tuesday (23/6).

According to Dody, the narrow condition of the area's roads has been an obstacle to community mobility and goods distribution.

Dody admitted that he felt the problem firsthand when reviewing the location. The road with a width of three to four meters makes it difficult for vehicles to pass and slow down traffic.

After being widened, the distribution of logistics became more smooth and travel time was significantly reduced.

"The presence of a wider road cuts down time and distance by almost twice as efficient as before," he said.

The government hopes that a similar development model can increase community access while accelerating the movement of production results from the region to the market.
