JAKARTA - Russian authorities have begun to reopen regular flight services to a number of countries, which were closed due to COVID-19 in stages. However, there are also flights with a number of countries that are still closed.

Launching TASS on Tuesday, June 1, Russia's National Anti-Coronavirus Crisis Center said regular flight services with the UK will be reopened from Wednesday, June 2.

"Given the improving epidemiological situation in the UK, the crisis center has taken the decision not to extend the suspension of air services," the crisis center said in a statement.

"Regular flights between Moscow and London will resume from June 2. There are three round-trip flights a week on this route," the statement continued.

Previously, regular air services with the UK were suspended in December 2020 amid a dramatic spike in coronavirus cases in the country.

In contrast to the UK, Russia extended the suspension of air services with Turkey and Tanzania. The crisis center said flight services to the two countries were suspended until June 21.

"Given the serious epidemiological situation in Turkey and Tanzania, the current air service restrictions will be extended until June 21, 2021," the crisis center said.

In addition, the crisis center also said Russia would continue and increase the number of regular weekly flights to a number of countries starting June 10. Among them are flights between Moscow and Munich (Germany), along with the easing of COVID-19 in these countries.

"From June 10, the number of flights will be increased reciprocally, twice a week between Moscow and Athens (Greece); once a week between Moscow and Baku (Azerbaijan), Moscow and Yerevan (Armenia), Moscow and Doha (Qatar), Moscow and Tashkent (Uzbekistan), Moscow and Dushanbe (Tajikistan), and seven times a week between Moscow and Cairo (Egypt) and Moscow and Belgrade (Serbia)," the crisis center said.

The crisis center added that it decided to resume international flights from Nizhnekamsk, Vladikavkaz, and Tomsk as well from 10 June.
