BJ Habibie Museum Construction Completed, Soon Inaugurated

JAKARTA - Mayor of Parepare, South Sulawesi, HM Taufan Pawe reported the completion of the construction of the 3rd Presidential Museum of the Republic of Indonesia, Prof. Dr. Ing. H Bacharuddin Jusuf Habibie.

"Thank God, we have just received Mr. Ilham Habibie. Earlier we discussed the preparation for the function of the BJ Habibie Museum which is our pride. God willing, we will function this year," said Taufan Pawe, as quoted by Antara, Thursday, May 27.

The man who is familiarly called Taufan accidentally met BJ Habibie's son, Ilham Akbar Habibie at his residence in the Patra area, Kuningan XIII Jakarta. Taufan reported the construction and discussed the preparations for the inauguration of the BJ Habibie Museum which is the building has been completed.

The BJ Habibie Museum, he said, is expected to be the only museum of national figures in Indonesia that is present in the City of Parepare, the target is to operate in 2021.

"Earlier, Mr. Ilham Habibie stated that God willing, he will be present at the inauguration," said Taufan.

Currently, the Parepare Education and Culture Office team, according to him, is conducting an inventory of BJ Habibie's belongings. A number of valuables belonging to the Father of Indonesian Technology will move to the BJ Habibie Museum in Bandar Madani City.

"Earlier we heard Mr. Ilham's direction that he wanted to make the BJ Habibie Museum truly a place of education. It must be a place for education and to commemorate the works of the Indonesian president born in Parepare," he said.

The museum was deliberately built in the private residence of the late BJ Habibie and his wife, Ainun Habibie, which was occupied for life on Bau Massepe Street, Parepare City, South Sulawesi. The house contains his belongings during his life, both before taking office until after becoming the 3rd President of Indonesia.

"Apart from remembering his services and works. We also apply several technologies so that educational tourism is felt. Like an audio visual that explains his inspirational stories," said the Chairman of DPD I Golkar South Sulawesi.

Meanwhile, Head of the Parepare City Education and Culture Office, Arifuddin Idris added, his party is now preparing a museum capacity plan. Not only that, but the inventory of valuables also requires special security. He hopes that the inventory process will run smoothly so that the target for the opening of the BJ Habibie Museum is as expected.

"Directions from Mr. Ilham and messages from Mr. Mayor, this museum should not be monotonous. Educational activities must exist. Such as seminars and technology studies and collaborating with educational institutions," he said.

"In essence, the community does not only remember BJ Habibie's services. But they get an education that is useful for them," Arifuddin added after the meeting.
