14 Chinese Nationals Caught Working as Laborers at a Mall in the Kelapa Gading Area

JAKARTA - Class I Immigration Officers at the North Jakarta Immigration Office (TPI) arrested 14 Chinese nationals working as manual laborers on a construction project at a mall in the Kelapa Gading area of ​​North Jakarta.

"They were arrested after receiving a report from the public. There are 14 citizens from China," said Pamudji Raharja, Head of the Regional Office of the Directorate General of Immigration for the Special Region of Jakarta, on Friday, November 14, 2025.

Pamudji explained that the 14 foreign nationals were caught performing manual labor at the location, performing various tasks.

Meanwhile, Rendra Mauliansyah, Head of the North Jakarta Immigration Office, stated that they entered Indonesia on visit visas, thus misusing their stay permits under Law Number 6 of 2011 concerning Immigration.

The 14 foreign nationals held visit stay permits with index C18. They are suspected of violating Article 116 of Law Number 6 of 2011 concerning Immigration because they failed to present travel documents to immigration officials.

Meanwhile, based on the examination, the 14 foreign nationals worked as laborers with different duties.

It was discovered that the foreign national, identified as QZ, worked as a foreman, HZ as a carpenter making doors, and WF as QZ's assistant, supervising the workers.

Foreigners with the initials JM worked as a carpenter building the roof, JJ worked as a painter plastering and painting the walls, PJ worked as an electrician, LZ worked as a welder, and YD worked as a handyman. The carpenters installed a suspended ceiling.

PG worked as an electrician, YS as a ceiling installer, CW as a ceiling installer, PS as a painter, and ZG as a ceramic installer.

For their actions, these immigration violators violated Article 122 letter a of Law Number 6 of 2011 by intentionally misusing or committing acts inconsistent with the intent of the residence permit granted.

"They were given administrative action in the form of detention and deportation," he said.

Rendra emphasized that the North Jakarta Immigration Office is committed to supporting President Prabowo Subianto's Astacita (Astacita) and the 13 Acceleration Programs of the Minister of Immigration and Corrections.

"We will consistently enforce immigration law, not only punishing foreigners but also ensuring that foreigners remain compliant and beneficial in Indonesia," he said.
