Police Reveal Case of Counterfeit Money in Tasikmalaya, Rp. 500 Thousand Sold for Rp. 100,000 (ANTARA)

TASIKMALAYA - The Tasikmalaya Police revealed a case of selling counterfeit money through social media. The police confiscated paper evidence printed with Rp50 thousand and Rp100 thousand rupiah denominations in Tasikmalaya, West Java.

"The perpetrator circulates it through social media. The buyer agrees to send the package," said the Head of Tasikmalaya City Police, Grand Commissioner Adjutant Doni Hermawan, during a press conference to reveal the case of counterfeit money circulation in Tasikmalaya, as quoted by Antara, Wednesday, April 28.

The police arrested a Tasikmalaya resident TN initials who had been making and circulating counterfeit money through social media with new buyers in Bekasi and Karawang.

The counterfeit money that was made, he said, was intended for personal gain. There are also amounts of Rp5,000, Rp20,000, Rp50,000 and Rp100,000 counterfeit bills. Rp500,000 counterfeit bills sell for Rp 100,000.

"The evidence confiscated by counterfeit bills with a value of Rp41 million, Rp730,000 in real money, has been successfully sold to three people with a value of Rp5 million in profits," he said.

Hermawan revealed that the suspect admitted that this was the first time he had committed the crime of printing rupiah currency using a simple printing tool.

"The perpetrator used plain paper, the forgery was not very sophisticated, it was physically touched and seen, the quality was clearly not good," he said.

The suspect charged with Article 37 in conjunction with Article 27 Paragraph 1 of Law Number 7/2011 concerning Currency with the threat of life imprisonment and a fine of Rp100 billion.

The police appealed to the public to always be aware of the circulation of counterfeit money in the market, especially during the momentum leading up to Eid.

"People must be really careful when receiving money, check the quality of money received by being touched, stained, the original has a mark," he said.
