JAKARTA - US President Donald Trump said he discussed Russia and Ukraine's requests and needs for a peace deal in a one-hour phone call with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
"Most of the discussions were based on a phone call yesterday with President Putin to align Russia and Ukraine with their requests and needs," Trump said in a post on Truth Social.
Prior to a phone call with Trump, Ukrainian President Zelenskyy said he would ask the United States to oversee the ceasefire between Ukraine and Russia with a focus on energy facilities. Zelenskyy is scheduled to speak by telephone with US President Donald Trump today.
"I really want control. However, I believe that the main agent of this control should be the United States," the Ukrainian president stressed Kyiv would be ready to commit to the ceasefire.
"If Russia will not attack our facilities, then we will definitely not attack their facilities," Zelenskyy added.
