JAKARTA The official YouTube account of the President of Costa Rica, Rodrigo Chaves, was successfully returned to government control on Friday evening March 21 after experiencing a cyber attack for several hours earlier.

In an official statement, the Costa Rica government explained that a team of experts from the presidential office, the science and technology ministry, and Google worked together to tackle the hack.

Authorities have not provided details about who or which party was behind this cyberattack. In addition, there is no information on whether sensitive data was leaked in the incident.

The Account Had Shown Bitcoin Logo

Earlier, on Friday morning, the YouTube account of the President of Costa Rica displayed a logo that read "Strategy" followed by the Bitcoin symbol. Some of the latest videos uploaded on the account are also related to cryptocurrencies.

However, the presidential office confirmed that the content did not come from them.

Currently, the government of Costa Rica together with Google continues to evaluate and improve security to prevent similar incidents from happening in the future.
