China Taipei Open 2026: Thalita Bungkam the 7th seed

Thalita Ramadhani Wiryawan returns the seventh seed to the second round of the 2026 China Taipei Open (doc. PBSI).

JAKARTA - The women's singles badminton player, Thalita Ramadhani Wiryawan, managed to advance to the second round of the 2026 China Taipei Open after sending home seventh seed Beiwen Zhang.

Thalita ensured that she survived the BWF Super 300 tournament after playing a two-game match directly 21-17 and 21-15 against the United States representative at the Taipei Arena on Wednesday, July 29, 2026, afternoon WIB.

"Today I just focus on implementing the strategy that has been prepared," said Thalita in an official statement received by the media from the Humas Central Management of the Indonesian Badminton Association (PP PBSI).

On paper, Thalita as an Indonesian youth player is certainly less experienced than Beiwen, who is very experienced. However, he can give resistance and dominate the course of the match.

Thalita faced a slightly heavy start to the first game, which made him lag behind 6-8. He then managed to score eight points in a row and make his opponent unable to catch up after that.

At the start of the second game, Thalita fell and got up, ahead and behind, but the flow of the game then began to change after he rose in a position of 6-7 behind with three consecutive points. He continued to lead afterwards.

"Zhang Beiwen is a senior player who is not young anymore, but his fighting spirit is still very high and his backhand is still good. I salute him," said Thalita.

In the second round, Thalita will face Tanvi Sharma. The Indian badminton player secured his place in the last 16 by sending home his compatriot Tasnim Mir.

Besides Thalita, the second round tickets were also secured by Prahdiska Bagas Shujiwo and Richie Duta Richardo singles and Rehan Naufal Kusharjanto/Gloria Emanuelle Widjaja mixed doubles.

Meanwhile, the men's singles badminton player Mohammad Zaki Ubaidillah was eliminated early in the first round. He returned from the tournament after losing to Justin Hoh (Malaysia).
