PWI Fest 2026 Held in December, Journalists Prepared to Face AI

JAKARTA - The Indonesian Journalists Association will hold the PWI Fest 2026 in Jakarta on December 4-5, 2026. This event is prepared as a training space for media workers to face major changes due to artificial intelligence and digital platforms.

PWI Fest 2026 also serves as the opening of the 2027 National Press Day series, which will be centered in Lampung in April 2027. PWI also designs this activity as an annual agenda that will be held in rotation in various cities.

The Chairman of the PWI Fest 2026 Committee, Auri Jaya, said the activity carried two main agendas. First, improving the ability of media workers. Second, bringing the press closer to the community.

"In addition to holding workshops with speakers from global platforms such as TikTok, Meta, and Google, we also held an UMKM Festival," said Auri at the PWI Central Secretariat, Jakarta, Wednesday, July 29.

According to Auri, PWI Fest is not only a place for press workers to update their ability to deal with digital and AI developments. This event is also designed as a meeting space between the media and the community.

The workshop will discuss digital journalism, artificial intelligence, mobile journalism, data verification, OSINT techniques, and digital security. PWI targets 250 to 500 participants consisting of journalists, editors, and content creators.

OSINT is a method of gathering and examining information from open sources. This skill is increasingly important as the flow of digital information is faster, while false news and visual manipulation are increasingly difficult to recognize.

In addition to training, PWI Fest will be filled with UMKM Festival, electronic sports competitions, and folk entertainment stages. The activities involve the government, state-owned enterprises, private companies, and digital platforms.

PWI Pusat Chairman Akhmad Munir assessed that the development of AI has fundamentally changed the media industry. The press, said Munir, should not just be a spectator.

"PWI is taking concrete steps to ensure that press workers have the capacity, technical skills, and strong ethical understanding to face AI transformation," said Munir.

He emphasized that the use of technology should not distance the press from the community. Therefore, PWI Fest not only contains editorial training, but also open activities that bring together media, business actors, government, and the public.

In the midst of economic pressure on the media and changes in consumption patterns of news, the challenges of the press are no longer just about chasing speed. Journalists are also required to be able to check information, understand technology, and still maintain ethics. PWI Fest 2026 tries to get right on that point.
