PDIP Prepares 17 Lawyers To Face Hasto Kristiyanto's First Trial, There Is A Former KPK Spokesperson

The PDI-P (PDIP) has prepared 17 lawyers or attorneys to accompany the Secretary-General of the PDIP Hasto Kristiyanto in the inaugural trial of alleged interim replacement bribery (PAW) for members of the DPR and the obstruction of investigation.

On Friday, March 14, the prosecutor will read out the indictment in the courtroom of Prof. Dr. H. Muhammad Hatta at the Jakarta District Court (PN) at 09.00 WIB.

Lawyer who is also the Chair of the PDIP DPP for Legal Reform Ronny B. Talapessy said that Hasto's legal team in the trial against the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) would not only be filled with cadres, but also professional lawyers.

"This team is a collaborative team between a legal team assigned by the Party, and a legal team with non-party or full professional backgrounds," said Ronny at the PDIP DPP Office, Central Jakarta, Wednesday, March 12.

One of the lawyers that PDIP collaborated with to defend Hasto was Febri Diansyah. Febri is a former KPK spokesman who resigned from the anti-corruption agency in 2020.

Ronny emphasized that PDIP gave full support to Hasto to face the legal process related to the Harun Masiku case.

Because, according to PDIP, Hasto's suspect status by the KPK is piracy of the function of law enforcement for political interests or revenge due to PDIP sacking a number of party cadres.

"This practice actually also happened to a number of other politicians. Therefore, we chose to fight the bad practices of piracy these law enforcement institutions, because we believe, this is part of a democratic struggle that is in line with the values of the party," explained Ronny.

"We believe that the Secretary General of PDIP, Hasto Kristiyanto is currently a political prisoner who has been forced to remain silent, and is formulated using a legal process that has been hijacked by the interests of certain parties," he added.

As a reminder, Hasto Kristiyanto was named a suspect by the KPK in the case of alleged interim replacement bribery (PAW) that ensnared former KPU commissioner Wahyu Setiawan and his fugitive, Harun Masiku. He was charged with Donny Tri Istiqomah who is a PDIP cadre as well as a lawyer.

Then, Hasto was also named a suspect in the alleged obstruction of the investigation. He is suspected of obstructing the legal process, one of which is because he asked Harun to damage his cellphone and run away after the KPK's arrest operation (OTT) was carried out in 2020.
