JAKARTA - Russia has spoken out regarding Britain and Ukraine which have just signed an agreement to strengthen military relations between the two countries.
Russian President Nikolay Patrushev assessed that the length of the agreement seemed like an attempt by Britain to create a new colony in Ukraine.
"By signing a recent 100-year partnership agreement with Kiev, London actually wants to create its newest colony in failed Ukrainian territory," Patrushev said in an interview with the Rossiyskaya Gazeta newspaper, quoted from Tass, Sunday, January 28.
Patrushev explained that the agreement regulates the presence of British military instructors in Ukraine, strengthening the UK's reach in the Black Sea and the Baltic Sea, as well as granting exclusive rights to British wara-wiri military ships in the Azov Sea, Russia's outland sea.
"With the agreement, Britain is trying to cover up its immoral policies by demonstratively ignoring international law, and proving its full support for the neo-Nazi regime in Kiev," said Patrushev.
The documents for this agreement were signed when British Prime Minister Keir Starmer visited Kiev, Ukraine recently.
In addition to establishing a comprehensive defense cooperation between Britain and Ukraine, the agreement document also paved the way for Britain to acquire Ukrainian fossil fuels.
Russia previously stated that it would further review the provisions in the UK-Ukraine agreement document.
