BMKG Information, Babel Residents Beware Of Installing Extreme Sea Water

JAKARTA - BMKG Pangkalpinang, Bangka Belitung Islands Province, reminded the public to be aware of extreme high tides which are estimated to reach a maximum of three meters during the 2024 Christmas and 2025 New Year holidays.

"We urge people in coastal areas to be aware of tidal flooding due to the extreme high tide," said Head of the Pangkalpinang BMKG Data and Information Team Slamet, ANTARA, Sunday, December 29.

He said the BMKG of Pangkalpinang City estimates that the high tide in the Babel Islands is a maximum of three meters due to several factors including el nina and others in this area.

"We cannot know for sure and in detail in which areas there will be this extreme tide, but it is hoped that the public will always be vigilant and careful about this fast weather change," he said.

According to him, the potential for tidal flooding and puddles in residential areas is quite high, so people in coastal areas should always be careful and vigilant.

"People must always be vigilant for the next two days, because the potential for sea tides is still quite high," he said.

He stated that in an early anticipation of this natural disaster, BMKG always informed the development of weather forecasts to BPBD, TNI, Polri, port managers and communities, especially in coastal areas.

"We only provide information that will occur or when a disaster occurs. Therefore, it is hoped that the public will always monitor the weather forecast on the Pangkalpinang BMKG web," he said.

Head of Pangkalpinang City BPBD (Head of BPBD) Nur Ikhsan said the Pangkalpinang City BPBD of Bangka Belitung Islands Province alerted a 24-hour rapid reaction team (TRC) to anticipate natural disasters ahead of the 2025 New Year's Eve celebrations in the area.

"Towards this New Year's Eve, BPBD remains on standby 24 hours and monitors at disaster-prone points due to extreme weather," he said.
