JAKARTA - South Korea's Ministry of Maritime Affairs on Monday announced it plans to take stricter action against Chinese vessels fishing illegally in the country's Western Sea.
The ministry said the action, which will begin on Tuesday, will be carried out together with the South Korean Coast Guard.
South Korea will seek to capture fishing vessels or operate illegally in the Korea Exclusive Economic Zone from today to Thursday, according to the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries.
During the operation, authorities will focus on the crackdown on Chinese fishing vessels involved in illegal fishing activities, or submit false reports of their catch.
"We will continue to work closely with relevant organizations to protect maritime resources in our waters and enforce order among Chinese fishing vessels through crackdown," said Maritime Affairs Minister Kang Do-hyung, as reported by The Korea Times December 2.
