Mahfud Calls President Prabowo's Commitment Against Corruption Awaited By The Public

JAKARTA - Former Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs (Menko Polhukam) Mahfud Md said President Prabowo Subianto's commitment and firmness was the hope to eradicate corruption in Indonesia.

"Only the president, in my opinion, can really increase the effectiveness of the corruption fight," Mahfud said in a seminar entitled 'The Corruption Eradication Policy Meeting' which was monitored from Jakarta, Thursday, November 21, was confiscated by Antara.

Mahfud said the public was still waiting for a tangible manifestation of the president's commitment to eradicating corruption. One of these tangible manifestations can be shown through governance.

However, Mahfud believes that current governance has not clearly shown the commitment to eradicating corruption.

"The statement (Prabowo) is okay, the hope is great from Pak Prabowo. Now we are waiting," said Mahfud.

On this occasion, Mahfud said that corruption is one of the biggest diseases in Indonesia. Mahfud highlighted the position of corruption that is side by side with law enforcement.

If law enforcement fails, the eradication of corruption will also fail. Failure in eradicating corruption then has implications for the failure to handle the nation's assets aimed at advancing the country.

"Thus, our nation will fail," said Mahfud.

Mahfud is of the view that a change of government is a momentum that must be used to eradicate corruption.

He believes that changing governments is part of the democratic process to redistribute power.

"Every time there is a new government, there is new hope, there are new opportunities that we might be able to take for this eradication of corruption," he said.

Therefore, Mahfud invites the public to oversee the new government in eradicating corruption.
