JAKARTA - Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez asked the international community to stop exporting weapons to Israel as soon as possible following the Zionist military offensive against UN peacekeeping forces in Lebanon.

"I believe that given everything that happened in the Middle East, the international community needs to stop arms exports to the Israeli government," Sanchez said in a joint press conference with Pope Francis at the Vatican, Friday, October 11.

The head of the Spanish government said his country was consistently refraining from "any contribution to the increase in violence and war" in the Middle East.

Spain has also been revealed to have never exported any weapons or military equipment to Israel since October 2023, as armed conflict in the Gaza Strip escalated.

Sanchez reiterated his harsh criticism of any violations or disturbances to international humanitarian law.

He also expressed great concern over the Israeli shooting of the UN Temporary Forces in Lebanon (UNIFIL).

UN peacekeeping forces were repeatedly fired at during the Israeli armed conflict and the Lebanon-based Hezbollah movement.

Israeli media reported the Israeli Armed Forces (IDF) asked UNIFIL to stay away from the Zionist regime's ground operations region against Hezbollah, which of course was not accepted by UN peacekeeping forces.

Earlier on Thursday (10/10), UNIFIL said the IDF fired a gun at the observation tower at its headquarters in Naqura in southern Lebanon, causing two peacekeepers from Indonesia to fall and be injured.

After that, there was also an incident where two other peacekeepers, this time from Sri Lanka, were injured on Friday as a result of two explosions near the observation tower in Naqura.
