Kim Jong-un Warns North Korea Will Use Nuclear Weapons If Its Sovereignty Is Violated

JAKARTA - Leader Kim Jong-un warned North Korea would not hesitate to use all available offensive powers, including nuclear weapons, if the enemy tries to use force to violate its sovereignty, state news agency KCNA reported Friday.

Leader Kim criticized South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol for threatening to end North Korea's regime in commemoration of South Korea's Armed Forces Day on Tuesday, saying the comments showed which party destroyed regional security and peace.

Leader Kim said President Yoon was "realizing to extraordinary military force countermeasures at the door of a country that has nuclear weapons and that was a major irony that led to suspicion as an abnormal person," KCNA reported.

"He asserted, 'if' the enemy, who was caught by extreme ignorance and carelessness, tried to use the armed forces to violate the DPRK's sovereignty. The DPRK will use without hesitation all of its offensive powers, including nuclear weapons," added KCNA.

The DPRK stands for the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, North Korea's official name.

The report said Leader Kim conveyed this at the training center of North Korea's army special forces on Wednesday.

North Korea itself is known to have been running a nuclear weapons program for decades and is believed to have enough fissile material to build dozens of such weapons. The country has carried out six underground nuclear detonation tests.

Earlier, South Korea on Tuesday commemorated the day of the annual armed forces with a military parade, showing off ballistic missiles capable of carrying large warheads to US bombers.

In his speech, President Yoon warned Pyongyang against using nuclear weapons, saying it would be greeted with "a firm and extraordinary response from our military and the US alliance."

"That day will be the end of the North Korean regime," said President Yoon.

Leader Kim said "retrotoric, act, deception, and enemy attempts that threaten cannot stop the DPRK's strong military force and will not seize our nuclear weapons forever," KCNA reported.
