Mukomuko Residents Arrest Big Crocodiles That Make Residents Uneasy

A number of residents of Mukomuko Regency caught a disturbing crocodile, Friday (27/9/2024) ANTARA/Ferri.

MUKOMUKO - A resident of Teramang Village, Mukomuko Regency, Bengkulu, caught a crocodile about six meters long near an oil palm plantation, because the protected animals were troubling residents and often appeared in rivers and land.

"Residents caught the crocodile using a rope, then the rope was used to tie the crocodile so that it could not be separated," said Teramang Jaya sub-district head Eka Purwanto, quoted by ANTARA, Friday, September 27.

He said the predatory incident with a length of about six meters was arrested on Friday (27/9) by a number of residents of Teramang Village, Teramang Jaya District.

The crocodile was captured not only far from the Nipah Water River and in that location there are also many Nipah trees located in the oil palm plantation area.

Regarding the incident, his party has contacted and coordinated with one of the officers of the Natural Resources Conservation Agency (BKSDA) in this area.

"Currently residents in this area are still waiting for the BKSDA to evacuate the crocodile," he said.

He said the presence of crocodiles from the river was troubling for residents because they had entered the oil palm plantation area.

The crocodile that appeared on the mainland, he said, clearly scared the residents. Because of this, there should not be any casualties. Although, he said, now no livestock and residents have died.

"Now there have been no casualties or fears that the residents will later become livestock, it could be humans, who were victims of being eaten by the crocodile," he said.

To prevent residents from killing the crocodile, he said after receiving reports of crocodile sightings in the oil palm plantation, the sub-district coordinated with related parties in this area.

"Essentially, we coordinated with related parties, so when we happened to see a crocodile trail, we reported it to the relevant parties," he said.

He also appealed to residents to be vigilant and careful when they are around the estuary of this area and hoped that people in this area would understand that the location is prone to crocodiles.
