JAKARTA - Palestinian militant group Hamas said on Thursday there was no need for a new ceasefire proposal for conflict in the Gaza Strip, instead pressure should be put on Israel to approve the US proposal the group had previously accepted.

In a statement Hamas said Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu attempted to thwart an agreement insisting Israel would not withdraw from Philadelphia corridor in southern Gaza.

"We warn against being caught in Netanyahu's trap and deception, as he uses negotiations to prolong aggression against our people," the statement said.

Hamas said they received a proposal on July 2 submitted by the United States.

As previously reported, the United States is working hard to submit a new proposal for the Gaza ceasefire and the release of hostages by Hamas in the coming days.

The new proposal aims to finalize key points behind months of stalemate in talks mediated by the United States, Qatar and Egypt seeking a ceasefire in the conflict between Israel and Hamas, US officials said.

Most of the deals have been approved, a senior President Joe Biden administration official separately told reporters on Wednesday, but negotiators are still trying to resolve the solution to the two main obstacles.

It was Israel's request to maintain its troops in Philadelphia corridor, a buffer zone in southern Gaza on the border with Egypt, and certain individuals to be included in the exchange of Hamas hostages and Palestinian prisoners in Israel, government officials, who refused to be identified.

The first US official said a new draft agreement could be made next week or even sooner.

Separately, senior Hamas official Izzat Al Risheq told Reuters on Wednesday the group would handle a new proposal "responding to the demands of our people's resistance and demands".
