Jokowi Discusses Mining With The Vice President Of Zimbabwe At The IAF Bali Summit Sela

JAKARTA - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) discussed mining work with Zimbabwe's Vice President, Dugish Campbell Muleya Mohadi, on the sidelines of the 2nd Africa Forum and High Level Forum on Multi Stakeholders Partnership (HLF MSP) 2024 in Bali, Monday 2 September.

"Welcome to Indonesia, and thank you for your presence, Your Majesty. I would also like to congratulate President Emmerson Mannangagwa on his opening remarks to Vice President Mohadi, which was confiscated by Antara.

In his introduction, President Jokowi warmly welcomed Vice President Mohadi and congratulated President Emmerson Munangagwa for his re-electing as President of Zimbabwe.

President Jokowi then highlighted three main issues in cooperation between Indonesia and Zimbabwe.

First, regarding economic cooperation, President Jokowi emphasized the importance of preferential trade agreements to strengthen the trade sector between Indonesia and Zimbabwe.

"Indonesia also wants to work together in the pharmaceutical sector. Zimbabwe's government support is highly appreciated," said the President.

Regarding the mining sector, President Jokowi revealed that Indonesia is currently exploring cooperation in lithium mining in Zimbabwe.

According to the President, he will assign Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Bahlil Lahadalia to accelerate the finalization of a memorandum of understanding regarding this matter.

Meanwhile, regarding development cooperation, President Jokowi emphasized Indonesia's readiness to strengthen cooperation with Zimbabwe through programs that are tailored to the country's needs through the Indonesia Aid mechanism.

President Jokowi also asked for the support of Vice President Mohadi to ensure the smoothness and success of this strategic cooperation.

"The development of e-procurement in Zimbabwe could potentially be one of our strategic projects. I ask for Your Majesty's support in this regard," said the President.

Also accompanying the President in the meeting were Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, Minister of Foreign Affairs Retno Marsudi, Minister of Investment/Head of BKPM Rosan Roeslani and Minister of State Secretary Pratikno.
