JAKARTA - The Ministry of Defense (MoD) has confirmed that the Indonesian Army has received the green light from the Ministry of Forestry to utilize 961.33 hectares of forest area as the headquarters of the Territorial Development Battalion (Yon TP).

This was confirmed when the TNI AD received 17 Letters of Approval for the Use of Forest Areas (PPKH) from the Ministry of Forestry at the Ministry of Defense, Central Jakarta, Monday, July 27.

The submission of the letters was witnessed directly by the Minister of Defense Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin and uploaded on his Instagram account @sjafrie.sjamsoeddin.

Head of the Defense Information Bureau of the Ministry of Defense, Brigadier General TNI Rico Ricardo Sirait, said the submission of the letter marked that the TNI AD was legally utilizing the land that had been determined.

"With the issuance of the SK PPKH, the TNI AD has obtained approval for the use of forest areas in accordance with applicable regulations, so that the construction of the base at the designated location can be carried out," said Rico as quoted by ANTARA.

Even though it has received approval, Rico ensures that the TNI AD must still follow the administrative requirements set out in the Minister's Regulation (Permen) LHK Number 7 of 2021.

Based on ANTARA's investigation, the candy regulates several points, one of which is the management of borrowing forest areas such as the area's area, the period of time, and several things that regulate rights and obligations.

"The construction process (Yon TP) can run in parallel with the fulfillment of these obligations in accordance with the provisions," he explained.

However, Rico did not explain in detail when exactly the construction of the Yon TP on the land would take place.

He also did not specify where the forest land would be built into the Yon TP.

The TNI AD targets to be able to build 750 Yon TP throughout Indonesia by 2029. This target must be achieved by building 150 Yon TP every year.

Based on the latest data owned by ANTARA, as of April 23, 2026, the TNI AD has 155 Yon TP spread throughout Indonesia.
