JAKARTA - Pakistan's Federal Investigative Agency (FIA) has charged a local man with cybercrime for spreading false information or hoaxes that sparked riots in Britain.

Riots in Britain came after false information circulated that an Islamic migrant was the murder of three children in an attack on Southport.

Farhan Asif, who manages the web, was arrested in the city of Lahore, eastern Pakistan, the FIA statement said.

Asif posted an article on his X social media account saying the attacker was a Muslim immigrant, and also shared photos of the murder.

After taking fake content from another X account, he is known to be involved in disseminating information using his Twitter account Channel3NOwnews with the intention of glorifying the incident of the arrest of a Muslim asylum seeker by the police.

"This creates fear, panic, unsafe," the FIA said.

The FIA stated that the account that spread the fake news was known to belong to Asif, who also claimed to have spread the hoax information to foreign publications.
