JAKARTA - Former Commissioner of the National Human Rights Commission (Komnas HAM) Beka Ulung Hapsara complained to the Komnas HAM Office regarding the alleged profiteering of the Population Identification Number (NIK) regarding the prospective individual candidates in the 2024 Jakarta Pilkada, Dharma Pongrekun-Kun Wardana.

"I think this profiteering is against the principles of democracy and law, where there is then protection of personal data, and also the person concerned or the KPU has never verified me factually," Beka said as quoted by ANTARA, Tuesday, August 20.

Beka asked Komnas HAM to investigate what happened behind the alleged profiteering. According to him, the profiteering of NIK is a violation of human rights as well as personal data.

"So that it not only violates the Human Rights Law, but also violates the Personal Data Protection Law and the Regional Head Election Law," he also said.

The pilkada stage, he said, must be carried out properly and in accordance with the principles of good human rights-based governance. For this reason, he hopes that Komnas HAM can take quick steps and announce the results of its investigations to the public.

"So there are no more similar cases in the general election process anywhere and anytime in the future," said Beka.

Meanwhile, the Coordinator of the Human Rights Advancement Sub-Commission Anis Hidayah will immediately follow up on Beka's complaint. Komnas HAM will summon KPU, Bawaslu, as well as other related parties.

"Maybe later we will ask experts for their views, for example about IT and so on, so that they can reveal behind the events where hundreds of thousands of people may be victims of personal data protection in the election process in DKI Jakarta. Hopefully later Komnas HAM can move quickly," said Anis.

Previously, the DKI Jakarta KPU, Thursday (15/8), stated that the candidate pair for governor and deputy governor of the independent route, Dharma-Kun, would meet the requirements to run in the 2024 Jakarta Pilkada. Dharma-Kun managed to collect as many as 677,467 supports.

After that, many DKI Jakarta residents on social media complained that they did not feel they were providing support to the candidate pair, but their NIK was listed as a supporter of Dharma-Kun.
