Marijuana Smugglers Arrested At RI Border And PNG Skouw

Joint personnel thwarted the smuggling of marijuana ready for distribution in the border areas of Indonesia and PNG Skouw, Jayapura City, Papua, Saturday, July 27. The joint personnel included members of the RI-PNG Border Police Post, Bais, denintel, and Kodim.

"Members of the Aipda I Made Pospol received information from witnesses that they had found unknown people by carrying bags suspected of containing marijuana around the market," he said.

According to him, members of the Aipda I Made Police Post along with members of the picket of the RI-PNG Border Police Post coordinated with members of Bais, denintel, Kodim, police, and customs at the Skouw border to jointly check the truth of the information.

"Arriving at the Skouw border market, information was obtained that one of the suspicious people had gone down to Jayapura City by driving a motorcycle taxi from the border," he said.

He explained that First Lieutenant Inf. Rico O. Harahap contacted Captain Inf. Alif Setiaji that someone was carrying a package of marijuana during a raid.

At 14:20 WIT, he said, after receiving the information, Captain Inf. Alif Setiaji together with customs, Bais, denintel, and Kodim personnel went down to the Muaratami Post, they found a suspicious person carrying 16 packages of marijuana.

"The package was wrapped in clear plastic weighing 1,180 grams," he said.

Arriving at the Pamtas Task Force's Kout Post, an in-depth study was carried out with the goods obtained from PNG. The perpetrator entered Indonesia via the "rat road" around the RI-PNG border.

"The perpetrator and the evidence have been handed over to the Muara Tami Police for further investigation," he said.
