JAKARTA - One member of the Central Jakarta Metro Police was injured while securing a demonstration by the All-Indonesian BEM Alliance (SI) which ended in chaos in the Horse Statue area, Gambir District, Central Jakarta, Monday, July 22, evening.

Head of Public Relations of the Central Jakarta Metro Police, Ipda Ruslan, confirmed that one member of the National Police was injured while securing the demonstration.

"Some were injured when they were thrown by stones, the wound on the right side of the eye," said Ipda Ruslan when confirmed by VOI, Monday, July 22, evening.

The riot occurred at the end of the night when the mass of action was reluctant to disperse. Then the participants of the action from the BEM All-Indonesian Alliance (SI) actually burned tires and banners in the rows of barriers in front of the concrete wall that blocked Jalan Medan Merdeka Barat.

The masses defended because they demanded that President Joko Widodo meet them directly at the location of the action. Then the water canon car sprayed water to extinguish the fire from the burning of the used tires.

The police were also forced to disperse the masses using a water canon spray. The masses were forced to withdraw because they refused to disperse.

"That's right, use water canons. (mass) Don't want to disperse, (even though) after sunset it was warned to disperse. The masses dispersed at 7 pm. No (demonstrators) were arrested," he said.

Previously, it was reported that the Central Jakarta Metro Police deployed 1,231 joint personnel to secure the demonstration of a number of community elements in the Horse Statue area, Monas, Central Jakarta.

"To secure the action of elements of society at the Monas Horse Statue roundabout and its surroundings, we involved a total of 1,231 joint personnel," said Central Jakarta Metro Police Chief Kombes Susatyo Purnomo Condro when confirmed, Monday, July 22.
