Police Investigate The Shooting Case Of LP3BH Manokwari Director

MANOKWARI - Manokwari City Police, West Papua, is investigating the shooting case of the Manokwari Director of the Manokwari Legal Aid Study and Development Research Institute (LP3BH) Yan Christian Warinussy.

The shooting incident was carried out by an unknown person (OTK) when the victim left one of Himbara's banks in the Sanggeng Manokwari area, at around 15:45 WIT.

Head of the Manokwari Police Operations Section, Kompol Wisnu Prasetyo, said the police were continuing to collect evidence to reveal the identity of the perpetrator and the motive for the shooting of the senior advocate.

"We don't want to speculate. Now we are still gathering information from a number of witnesses at the scene," said Wisnu as quoted by ANTARA, Wednesday, July 17.

The police, he said, had checked the surveillance camera (closed circuit television/CCT) belonging to the Himbara bank but it was not recorded because the camera was damaged.

The police again collected evidence of surveillance cameras from around the scene of the incident while examining witness testimony, including the victim's family.

"The victim's family who was together in the car saw that there was a vehicle that took the victim when taking money at an ATM, but basically we have to explore it again," he said.

He explained that the victim was immediately evacuated to the West Papua Province Hospital after suffering a gunshot wound to the left chest, and the projectiles had been successfully removed.

The results of identification of projectiles lodged in the victim's body can be concluded that the perpetrator used an air rifle when launching a shooting at the victim.

"The investigation will continue. The victim is still receiving medical treatment, the bullets have been released. The victim's family has also made a report," said Wisnu.

Director of Amnesty Internasional Usman Hamid strongly condemns acts of terror and shooting of advocates for human rights and peace defenders in Papua.

Amnesty International urged local police to immediately arrest the perpetrators and at the same time reveal the motive behind the shooting of LP3BH Manokwari Director.

The shooting was a terror against Yan's personality and his work so far. Amnesty urged the authorities to immediately find out who the culprit was," Usman Hamid.
