Egyptian President Al-Sisi Stresses Need for Ceasefire in Gaza, Two-State Solution

JAKARTA - Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi stressed the importance of immediately achieving a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, as well as advancing a two-state solution to the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, during talks with friendly heads of state.

In a telephone conversation with Czech President Petr Pavel, President al-Sisi stressed the need for joint international efforts to achieve an immediate ceasefire in the war-torn Gaza Strip, in addition to "discussing various regional and international issues of common concern."

"President El-Sisi stressed the importance of peaceful solutions to regional and international crises, stressing the need for joint international efforts to achieve an immediate ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and provide urgent and unrestricted access for humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip to address the dire humanitarian conditions experienced by the Palestinian people," the Egyptian Presidency said, as reported by WAFA on July 17.

"The vital need to take effective measures to avoid an escalation of the conflict and to reach a just and comprehensive solution to the Palestinian issue based on the two-state solution," he continued.

Meanwhile, during a phone call with French President Emmanuel Macron, President al-Sisi discussed Egypt's mediation efforts to achieve a ceasefire and prisoner exchange.

President al-Sisi called for the importance of uniting international efforts to make the mediation efforts a success and providing sufficient humanitarian aid to ease the harsh conditions in the Gaza Strip.

"The two presidents agreed on the importance of intensifying joint international action, with the aim of preventing the escalation of the conflict and the region from slipping into a new cycle of uncontrolled conflict," the Egyptian Presidency said.

It added that both also stressed the importance of advancing the path of a two-state solution that guarantees the establishment of a Palestinian state in accordance with international legitimacy resolutions, as this is the ideal path to achieving sustainable security and stability in the region.
