JAKARTA - South Korea is reviewing offers from Poland to purchase drones, particularly airstrike vehicles used effectively in Ukraine.

Poland promoted their drone sales to a South Korean delegation led by Defense Minister Shin Won-sik who visited last month, South Korea's Don't-A Ilbo newspaper reported, citing unnamed government sources.

The Polish government has exposed the effectiveness of drones proven in combat and the relatively cheap price, reports Dong-a Ilbo.

Poland has signed a major arms contract with South Korea, including a $22 billion deal in 2022 for howitzer mechanical, tank, and fighter jet manufacturing, which is the largest arms sales ever for South Korea.

"It is not easy to maintain a one-way relationship where only Poland bought South Korean weapons," a South Korean government official said in a newspaper report.

"If we buy a Polish drone, it could encourage our arms exports to Poland," the official said.

South Korea's Ministry of Defense said it was reviewing ways to strengthen its drone capabilities including possible acquisitions from abroad and the review includes Polish drones that have been operating in real combat.

South Korea has made great efforts to become the world's fourth largest defense exporter by 2027.

Poland is likely to sign another contract with South Korea in September for more weapons shipments, particularly K2 tanks, Polish Defense Secretary Wldyslaw Kosiniak-Kamysz was quoted as saying by state news agency PAP in June.
