Time For Inauguration Of Candidates For Regional Head Of Regional Head Elections 2024 Is Not Clear, KPU Waits For Ministry Of Home Affairs' Direction

The General Election Commission (KPU) has not yet set a schedule for the inauguration of the elected regional head candidate pair (cakada) for the 2024 Pilkada. Meanwhile, the inauguration schedule needs to be known to calculate the full age limit for regional head candidates who may run. Bearing in mind, the Supreme Court (MA) issued a decision determining the age limit for a candidate for governor-deputy governor at least 30 years, as well as a candidate for regent-deputy regent/mayor-deputy mayor for at least 25 years, starting from the inauguration of the elected candidate pair. Acting Chairman of the Indonesian KPU Mochammad Afifuddin admitted that his party was still waiting for the direction of the Ministry of Home Affairs (Kemendagri) to determine the date of the inauguration of the 2024 Pilkada winner. "We are currently consolidating with friends from the Ministry of Home Affairs who will technically be very interested in determining the technical inauguration of the regional head," Afif said at the KPU RI Office, Central Jakarta, Friday, July 5. Continuing, the Indonesian KPU Commissioner August Mellaz emphasized that the schedule for simultaneous inauguration should be determined by the government through the Presidential Regulation. After that, the KPU only put it in technical rules. "The time for the inauguration of all kinds is not the KPU area. Therefore, today there is coordination between us the KPU and the Ministry of Home Affairs. As an organization, we have an obligation to respect and comply with the provisions of the law," explained Mellaz. Previously, Hasyim Asy'ari while still the Chairman of the Indonesian KPU, revealed that the Pilkada Law regulated the inauguration of the regional head candidate pairs simultaneously. The simultaneous inauguration will be held at the end of the term of office of the regional head for the last period. Thus, the simultaneous inauguration will be carried out after the term of office of the definitive regional head who takes office in the 2020 Pilkada ends. On the one hand, Hasyim revealed the fact that the inauguration of the Yalimo Regent and Deputy Regent as a result of the 2020 Pilkada was on April 1, 2022. This happened because of a lawsuit to the Constitutional Court and resulted in a re-voting (PSU). Thus, Hasyim interpreted that the inauguration of the elected regional head candidate pair could occur simultaneously in 2027 after a 5-year period of office of the Regent and Deputy Regent of Yalimo.

"It can be concluded that the simultaneous inauguration of the regional head candidate and deputy regional head elected from the 2024 regional elections can be carried out after April 1, 2027, namely on April 2, 2027," said Hasyim, some time ago.
