Megawati About UKT Mahal: Reduce Its Name Social Assistance

Chairman of the PDI-P (PDIP) Megawati Soekarnoputri highlighted that the polemic of single tuition fees (UKT) for universities that are still being discussed will increase.

Megawati assessed that the government should be able to prepare a special budget so that it can help the community to get their educational rights.

President Soekarno's daughter also suggested that the government should reduce the social assistance budget which is considered excessive to be allocated to the education sector.

This was revealed by Megawati in her inaugural speech at the inauguration ceremony and the oath of office of the PDI-Perjuangan DPP board for the 2019-2024 term which was extended until 2025.

"For me, I'm sorry, because I was the President, if there is no money for schools, I will reduce what is called social assistance. I can't? Yes," said Megawati at the PDIP DPP Party School, Lenteng Agung, South Jakarta, Friday, July 5.

The 5th President of the Republic of Indonesia asked the government to discuss it with the DPR to prepare its budget posture. Thus, education can be felt for all Indonesian people without exception.

Megawati also asked all her cadres who sit in the DPR RI, to be able to fight for a cost-free education system in the future.

"Can't it be done? Even though it should be for education, the school must be free. Don't be right, do it right, run it. Dare not to run it? Don't just talk, you know, how come you use a scene, I'm even dizzy with UKT," explained Megawati.

On that occasion, Megawati also mentioned the pattern of planned universe development. He asked the Minister of Bappenas, Suharso Monoarfo, to dissect the pattern again.

"If something is bad, thrown away, if someone has to say maybe it doesn't follow the times, civilization, it's modified. But the point is extraordinary, in my opinion. So what is it for? Prepare Indonesians to be progressive, progress," he said.
