JAKARTA - The surge in investment in the Capital of Nusantara (IKN), East Kalimantan, continues to show progress. The Capital of Nusantara Authority (OIKN) noted that the commitment to realizing private investment had reached Rp. 74.54 trillion as of August 7, 2026, from 67 domestic and foreign investors.

Head of OIKN Basuki Hadimuljono said that private investment is one of the four financing schemes for the IKN development. The other three schemes are the State Budget (APBN), cooperation between the government and business entities (KPBU) and grants.

"Regarding the sustainability of IKN, for us as the Authority, we will continue to carry out the tasks as assigned. For financing, there are currently four schemes, the state budget, KPBU, private investment and grants. Everything is going well and this private investment is quite encouraging because many investors are starting to enter," said Basuki to reporters at IKN, quoted Saturday, August 15.

A number of new investors have also begun to realize projects in the IKN area. One of them is PT Start Bright International Investment from China which has prepared an investment of around IDR 1.25 trillion to build four apartment towers.

According to Basuki, the construction of the project has begun to show progress. In fact, more than 100 apartments developed by Start Bright have been ordered.

"This private investment is encouraging, one of which is PT Star Bright International Investment from China (building) the four towers, now people have booked the apartments, more than 100 (units) apartments. This is surprising," he said.

In addition to investors from China, OIKN noted investors from South Korea who prepared investments of around IDR 2.5 trillion. Lion Group also plans to build a training center and maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) facilities in the area around IKN Airport.

Lion Group is preparing land of around 30 hectares for the development of the MRO facility. Basuki said that the plan developed after Lion Group saw the potential of IKN Airport in supporting aviation activities and aircraft maintenance.

"Lion Group originally wanted to make a training center. After seeing the potential, they also want to build an MRO of around 30 hectares. We have connected with the Land Bank because the land around the airport is owned by the Land Bank," he explained.

Basuki said that IKN Airport has a runway of about three kilometers with a width of 45 meters. The infrastructure is considered capable of supporting the operation of wide-body aircraft.

OIKN also encourages the use of IKN Airport for commercial flights, including as a departure point for the hajj and umrah. However, the realization of this plan is still pending a change in the status of the airport from a special airport to a commercial airport through a presidential regulation (Perpres).

In the property sector, entrepreneur Siswono Yudo Husodo has expressed a commitment to developing a residential area of 139 hectares behind the Presidential Palace area. The development is part of a plan for the area which also includes the construction of a golf course.

A number of other investors are also starting to prepare projects to strengthen the IKN urban ecosystem. Taman Safari is preparing a project design, while Indobox, which operates in the cinema and culinary sectors, has obtained land and is targeted to start operating in November.

Plataran has also started land clearing for the construction of restaurants around the West Axis of the IKN. In addition, there are plans to build a Simple restaurant.

He said that the increase in investors entering the IKN economic ecosystem was an indication that it was gradually forming. OIKN also provided support to accelerate the development of investor projects, including through the provision of housing and office space for workers.

"Investors who have entered we will help so that they can build faster. There are investors from South Korea, Star Bright from China and Citadel from Malaysia. Some of their workers are already at IKN and we have prepared facilities so that the process of building their investment can be faster," said Basuki.

In addition to private investment, OIKN noted that the value of projects through the KPBU scheme had reached IDR 134.22 trillion as of August 7, 2026.
