MALUKU - The Natural Resources Conservation Center (BKSDA) of Maluku Province received nine birds belonging to protected animals from the findings of officers at Pertamina Waiyame Port, Ambon.

The birds were handed over by the Maluku Police Ditreskrimsus to KSDA officers to be entrusted to the Maluku Animal Conservation Center (PKS) of the Ambon Cengkih Gardens, said the Maluku BKSDA Forest Police (Polhut) Seto, in Ambon, Friday, June 21, confiscated by Antara.

The nine birds consist of two Papuan black-headed parrots, one yellow-crested cockatoe, two spinach parrots and four Papuan black parrots.

The animal was found on the MT ship. Matindo which docked at the Pertamina Waiyame Port Pier in Ambon.

"From the results of the examination by PKS officers, it is known that the birds are in good health," said Seto.

Previously, the Maluku Police Ditreskrimsus received a report that nine birds entered the protected animal were carried by a crew member (ABK).

The Maluku Regional Police then contacted to ask KSDA officers for help in securing the animal on Monday, June 17 evening.

Seto emphasized to the public that wild animals, especially protected types of endemic birds, cannot be found elsewhere, so it is an obligation to maintain the diversity of abundances of both plant and animal species in Indonesia.

He also hopes that people who find cases of animal smuggling will immediately be reported to the authorities, both in the BKSDA and the police.

"We are open to the public, if there is a submission or report we will receive. This is also so that we can enjoy the TSL in the present and future," said Seto.

Based on the provisions of Law no. 5 of 1990 concerning Conservation of Biological Natural Resources and their Ecosystems that anyone with intent to capture, injure, kill, store, possess, maintain, transport, and trade protected animals alive; (Article 21 paragraph (2) letter a), is threatened with a maximum imprisonment of five years and a maximum fine of Rp. 100 million (Article 40 paragraph (2)).
