JAKARTA - University of Indonesia (UI) Criminologist Nuruddin Lazuardi assessed that public dissatisfaction with law enforcement was one of the triggers for the beating that killed car rental entrepreneur with the initials BH in Sukolilo, Pati, Central Java.

According to him, acts of violence in the context of playing judges can be caused by various factors.

There are various variables inherent in the judicial process itself, one of which is dissatisfaction with the pressure of the situation whether it is economic, political, and legal. What is seen in Sukolilo can be said, that they are apathy to the law, how can they be dissatisfied with the current situation," said Nuruddin to reporters, Wednesday, June 12.

Not only that, the slow pace of the police and the government to fix the Sukolilo area known as the'state of crime' is also in the spotlight.

Moreover, the Sukolilo area can be known as a syndicate village, not just like that. Surely, he said, there is a long process until the area is known for its negative things.

'Sukolilo is referred to as a village of criminal syndicates, right through a process. A process where there are complaints from the public, there are many stigmas that have been raised by the public against the area," he said.

According to him, when the evil nest stamp or labeling is attached to the Sukolilo area, there is an effort to fix it or at least minimize it. So, it will be better for areas that intersect or its surroundings.

"The stamp is attached because nothing is done to fix or minimize it to become a better area," said Nuruddin.

"What law enforcement officials should do, what the government should do, we talk about prevention, it becomes the realm of law enforcement and other relevant officials," he continued.

In addition, Nuruddin also highlighted the phenomenon of social media which according to him also triggered self-judicial acts in society.

"I see it like this, that from the videos circulating how the violence was carried out, at first glance it was seen that they felt innocent when they did it. They did it with enthusiasm, did it enthusiastically so as if there was no guilt or even maybe if they interpreted it as if they were doing good to the crimes they had committed," he said.

"The incident in Sukolilo is an illustration that it is no longer a direct type of violence but has become a cultural violence, this has become a culture," continued Nuruddin.

Meanwhile, acts of violence against the owner of the rental began when BH (bos rental) and three other people SH (28), KB (54) and AS (37) were looking for a lost rental car.

Based on their GPS search, the car was in the Sukolilo area. They then went to the location to find the whereabouts of the car and arrived in Sukolilo on Thursday 6 June 2024 at around 13.00 WIB and found the car they were looking for.

The rental group tried to take the car with the spare key. Unfortunately, residents who were passing by and saw him thought BH and the other three people were thieves.

Residents then shouted until the time came. As a result, the four people were beaten to a pulp. In addition, the car, which was driven by the four of them from Jakarta to Pati, was also burned down by the masses.
