Ombudsman Finds PPDB 2023 Maladministration In Riau Islands

The Indonesian Embassy in the Ombudsman found school assets that were not utilized due to maladministration of New Student Admissions (PPDB) 2023 in the Riau Islands Province (Kepri).

"We found this condition at SMA Negeri 3 Tanjungpinang City," said Head of the Prevention Assistant for Maladministration of the Riau Islands Representative Ombudsman Adi Permana in Tanjungpinang, Wednesday, June 12, which was confiscated by Antara.

Adi said, there were 13 classrooms in the school that were not used due to the shortage of students.

In PPDB in 2023, he said, only 19 students entered SMAN 3 Tanjungpinang. Of the total 18 classrooms, only five were used.

In fact, he continued, in two other schools, namely SMAN 1 and SMAN 2 Tanjungpinang, there was a buildup of hundreds of students, even opening online classes. Students, he said, are entitled to offline or face-to-face learning.

Such conditions, he continued, are very concerning because the accumulation of students at one school will make the learning process ineffective.

"In addition, the workload of teachers has increased in schools where accumulation occurs. It is feared that this can reduce the quality of learning," said Adi.

Therefore, he hopes that in PPDB 2024 all stakeholders, both organizers and the community, can implement PPDB in accordance with technical instructions (juknis), so as to minimize the impacts of losses in the implementation process.

Adi further conveyed that the Indonesian Ombudsman Representative of the Riau Islands would continue to monitor each stage of PPDB and ask the public to participate.

"We carry out monitoring every year so that PPDB can run better. In Tanjungpinang itself, based on our monitoring, PPDB preparations for this year have gone well," he said.

The implementation of PPDB SMA/SMK Negeri for the 2024/2025 school year in Riau Islands will begin to open on 11-13 June 2024, namely specifically for the registration of PPDB SMA for affirmation, achievement, and transfer of parents. Meanwhile, registration for the zoning route will be carried out on June 22, 2024.
