KSP Asks Amien Rais To Be Careful In Accusing The Presidential Office Of Being Changed Into 3 Periods

JAKARTA - Main Expert Staff of the Presidential Staff Office (KSP) Donny Gahral Adian asked the founder of the Ummat Party, Amien Rais to be careful in conveying speculation so as not to become slanderous.

This was conveyed in response to Amien's statement who suspected a scenario of changing provisions in the 1945 Constitution regarding the presidential term from two terms to three terms.

"Mr. Amien Rais must be careful because speculation without basis can be considered as slander," said Donny when contacted by reporters, Monday, March 15.

Apart from that, he also said that the speculation presented by the former chairman of the Indonesian People's Consultative Assembly (MPR) was baseless. Given, President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) some time ago firmly rejected the proposal for an additional three-term presidential term.

"It is speculation and we don't know what the motive is to say that kind of speculation. The president has confirmed that he rejects the three-term proposal. For the president, the constitution outlines two terms and that must be used as a guideline," he said.

Therefore, Donny asked that this kind of speculation no longer be conveyed to the public. Moreover, there is no evidence presented by Amien Rais against this accusation.

"So be careful. What is conveyed without evidence, only speculation, raises a conspiracy theory. Even though the president has said there is no such thing as three terms. The constitution outlines two terms," he explained.

The issue related to changing the presidential term to three terms is not the first time this has blown. In 2019, President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) even responded to this proposal by stating that there were parties who were looking for his face.

He considered that amendments to the Constitution should not be necessary and should focus on external pressures.

"From the start, I have told you that I am a product of direct elections. At that time, when there was a wish for an amendment, what was my answer? For matters of state direction, do not expand anywhere," said Jokowi as quoted from the Cabinet Secretariat website.

Jokowi said that this proposal indicated three things, namely that there were parties who were deliberately apple polishing on him so that they intended to take him down.

"Some say that the president is elected for 3 terms, there are 3 categories. Want to slap my face, want to find a face (apple polishing -ed), even though I have a face. The third is they want to make it happen. That's all, I have told you," said the former governor of DKI Jakarta.

As previously reported, through his YouTube account, former Chairman of Indonesian People's Consultative Assembly (MPR), Amien Rais, revealed that the Jokowi administration had attempted to control high state institutions and this was considered dangerous.

In the video he uploaded, Amien also suspected that the Jokowi regime would push the MPR session to make changes to the two articles. One of them is changing the term of office of the president.

"So they will take the first step asking the MPR Special Session, which may be one or two articles, he said, needs to be corrected. Which, I also don't know, but later a new article will be offered which then gives the right that the president can be elected three times," he said as quoted from the video uploaded on the Amien Rais Official account.

"If this is really their wish, then I think we can immediately say inalillahi wa inalillahirojiun," he added.
