SEMARANG - Semarang City District Court (PN) sentenced Donal Hariyanto to 1.5 years in prison, the perpetrator of smuggling hundreds of dogs from West Java to Central Java.

Semarang City District Court spokesman Haruno Patriadi said the sentence was the same as the prosecutor's demands.

In addition to the corporal punishment, the defendant was also sentenced to pay a fine of Rp250 million which if not paid it would be replaced with imprisonment for one month.

"The defendant was found guilty of violating Article 89 paragraph 2 of Law Number 41 of 2014 concerning Animal Husbandry and Health," he said as quoted by ANTARA, Wednesday, May 29.

He explained that the defendant was proven to have put hundreds of dogs into areas that were free of animal disease from infected areas or suspected of contracting them without legal documents.

In addition to the defendant Donal Hariyanto, the court also sentenced four other perpetrators in this case to 10 months in prison each.

The other four perpetrators, Ariyoto, Wagiman, Sulasno, and Ervan Yuliantu, were crew members of the truck that the defendant Donal Hariyanto paid to send hundreds of dogs.

As for the 180 dogs that were infiltrated by the defendant to the Central Java region, Haruno continued, there were still 159 living.

Against the 159 dogs, the court decided to hand over to the Indonesian Meta Animal-Corruptioning community and Semarang dog lovers for treatment.
