JAKARTA - East Jakarta Marine and Agricultural Food Security Sub-dept. (KPKP) officers found two cows indicated to have mouth and nail disease (PMK).

This was revealed when the animal health officer of the East Jakarta KPKP Sub-dept. conducted a health check on sacrificial animals ahead of Eid al-Adha 1445 H on Jalan Hankam Headquarters, Bambu Apus and Jalan Bina Marga, Ceger, Cipayung District, East Jakarta, Monday, May 27.

The officer who found the case immediately quarantined two cows from Flores, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) so that there was no transmission of healthy sacrificial animals.

Head of the Animal Husbandry and Animal Health Section of the East Jakarta KPKP Sub-dept., Theresia Ellita, said the two sacrificial animals indicated by PMK were immediately isolated so as not to transmit disease to other sacrificial animals.

The officer also provided fever and vitamin reduction drugs on the two sacrificial animals who were in a shelter on Jalan Headquarters Hankam.

"We will also continue to monitor every day to monitor developments in the health of these animals," said Ellita.

His party will monitor within two days. If nothing changes, these two sacrificial animals will be forcibly slaughtered on the spot and the owner has agreed.

"For the meat, it is still suitable for people to consume," he said.

Elita also appealed to sellers of sacrificial animals to further tighten the condition of cleanliness of the area of shelters/sales of sacrificial animals.

"The mobility of citizens or potential buyers is sought to be tightened so that people are not easy and free to go in and out. This is to prevent unwanted things, such as the spread of the PMK," he explained.

In general, he added, the health condition of the sacrificial animals in the two shelters is in good health. Except, the two cows.

Meanwhile, the seller of sacrificial animals on Jalan Headquarters Hankam, Raja Kurnia said that the 121 cows he sold came from Flores, NTT.

According to him, it took a week to arrive at the location of the shelter, so that the two cows had high fever.

Even though before leaving for Jakarta, all the cows that were sent had been checked. In fact, it has been provided with an animal health certificate (SKKH) from Flores.

"I will monitor the development in the next two days. If nothing changes, the cows will be slaughtered on the spot," said he, who has been selling for 15 years at the location.
