Because Of MiChat, Shopee Paylater Broken To Buy IPhone 11 And Vivo Y17s, Here's The Chronology

Three gangs of extortionists using dating mode through the MiChat application were arrested by the Kalideres Police on Tuesday, May 14. The three perpetrators with the initials VN (21), AA (26) and MAS (26), they were arrested while hiding in Kosambi Baru Village, Cengkareng District, West Jakarta.

Kalideres Police Chief Kompol Abdul Jana said the modus operandi of the perpetrators used a fictitious MiChat application to deceive and blackmail victims. In fact, the three perpetrators used the victim's Shopee Pay Later account to buy the iPhone 11.

"So they created fake accounts with photos and profiles of a woman to trick and lure the victim," said Commissioner Abdul Jana when confirmed, Tuesday, May 14.

Furthermore, Kompol Abdul Jana explained, in his action the suspect with the initials VN used a photo of a woman taken from Facebook and installed it on the MiChat dating application under the fictitious name "Putri Nita".

The perpetrator then started posting the photo to attract the victim's attention. After receiving a response from the victim, the perpetrator offered an initial date price of IDR 500 thousand

The victim then bid the price of up to Rp. 200 thousand and an agreement occurred. At the time that has been determined, the VN perpetrators and suspects AA departed from their boarding house to the meeting place around Gang Sate Hasan, Jalan Peta Selatan, RT 06/04, Kalideres, West Jakarta, on Sunday, May 5.

Furthermore, when the victim arrived on a motorbike, suspect AA then frightened the victim by saying that the woman in the photo was his wife and threatened to take the victim to the police station.

However, because the victim was afraid, the perpetrator then asked for Rp500 thousand in peace money. The victim also gave it to suspect AA.

In addition, the perpetrator also forcibly took the victim's cellphone as collateral. The perpetrator also used the victim's Shopee Paylater application via the cellphone he confiscated.

The perpetrator then bought one iPhone 11 unit and two Vivo Y17s units. After the victim's cellphone was used for online shopping, then the victim's cellphone was also pawned at INDO GADAI for IDR 400 thousand.

"The victim suffered losses of up to Rp. 15 million more," he said.

The perpetrators have launched an action with a similar mode 5 times. Perpetrators often use the MiChat application to find targets for robbery using a fictitious woman's account.

"The perpetrators were charged with Article 368 of the Criminal Code concerning extortion with a penalty of 9 years in prison. We hope that this firm action can provide a deterrent effect and warn the public to be more aware of this kind of fraud," he said.
