Makassar Police Criminal Investigation Unit arrested two perpetrators of criminal acts of theft and embezzlement of telecommunications equipment QUad Small Form Factor Pluggable (QSFP) or STB data center belonging to provider XL Axiata.
"The perpetrator has the initials ANR (29 years old) who is an unemployed technician and BGS (22 years old). Both are currently being prosecuted," said Head of Criminal Investigation Unit of Makassar Polrestabes, Kompol Devi Sujana in Makassar, as reported by ANTARA, Monday, May 13.
The disclosure of the case began with a report from the reported party who was suspicious when receiving the QSFP-28 MPO LR device from Jakarta to Makassar, which decreased in number. Initially, PT Surya Hedona Lembayung as the third party working on the installation project in the form of a Kominfo device belonging to XL Axiata in the Makassar Industrial Estate (KIMA).
Furthermore, the company sent as many as 32 units of QSFP-28 MPO LR with neatly wrapped states when sending them to Makassar according to the address of the reported party. The evidence was secured by officers, namely four QSFP units, two cellphones belonging to the two perpetrators.
From the results of the interrogation, the two admitted to having committed theft by revoking the QSFP belonging to Provider XL Axiata as many as eight units, then selling it to the man with the initials DMR worth Rp. 14.4 million.
In addition, the perpetrator also confirmed and admitted to committing fraud and embezzlement when the XL provider sent 32 QSFPs to be installed on the server, but both of them only installed 16 pieces, the remaining 16 were sold to men with the initials IDR 12 million.
The two perpetrators have been named suspects and charged with Article 362 of the Criminal Code concerning theft with a maximum threat of five years in prison and Article 363 of the Criminal Code concerning theft with a weighted penalty of a maximum of 7 years in prison, while the collectors are also prosecuted.
The perpetrators are employees of a partner company working on the XL Axiata Data Center project at KIMA Makassar. Perpetrators abuse their duties and authorities easily carry out their actions without raising suspicions by security officers. The action took place between 15-17 March 2024 and the last 1 April 2024.
