Two People Died, Jember Bawaslu Group Survived Deadly Accident

JAKARTA - Chairman of the Election Supervisory Body (Bawaslu) Jember Sanda Aditya Pradana survived a series of deadly accidents while traveling home after serving from Surabaya to Jember, East Java, Friday morning.

"Alhamdulillah, I and the staff of the Jember Bawaslu survived the deadly accident," said Sanda, Antara, May 10.

A fatal accident involving an Isuzu truck with police number K-1495-KS with an Isuzu Elf Nopol P-7322-Q and a Kijang Innova car carrying the Chairperson of the Jember Bawaslu occurred on Jalan Raya Sadengah, Rowotengah Village, Sumberbaru District, Jember Regency, Friday morning at around 01.30 WIB. Two people were reported to have died.

The two victims who died were people who were crossing after getting off the bus, namely Tumpi (67), a resident of Sidomulyo Village, Smboro District, Jember Regency and a passenger of an Isuzu Elf car named Elok Tri Wahyuni (45), a resident of Banyuwangi Regency.

Two victims who suffered serious injuries were an Isuzu Elf driver named Imron Rosyidi and his passenger Suyami (55) who received intensive care at the Jatiroto Lumajang Hospital.

"Before the accident occurred, I had time to move seats from beside the driver to the middle row because I felt uncomfortable. We took a travel vehicle after returning from work from Surabaya," he said.

According to him, the car he was traveling in was about 10-20 meters behind Isuzu Elf's car that hit the truck, so he could not avoid and collided with Elf's car.

"The car we were traveling in in front of was destroyed, but thank God the driver, I and the Bawaslu staff who were in the car survived, only a few abrasions," he said.

Meanwhile, the Head of Lakalantas for the Jember Police, Iptu Edy Purwanto, said the chronology of the fatal accident began when the Isuzu truck Nopol K-1495-KS was driven by Arofik traveling from east to west at high speed.

"Arriving at the scene of the incident, the intersection road did not pay attention to a pedestrian named Tumpi crossing the road after getting off the bus from north to south and finally crashing into the pedestrian," he said.

Then the truck swerved to the right and there was a collision of two vehicles from the opposite direction from west to east with the Isuzu Elf Nopol P-7322-Q driven by Imron Rosyidi and the Kijang Innova car with the number P-1513-HI driven by M. Saiful Ulum, resulting in an accident.

He explained that the successive fatal accident caused two people to die, namely pedestrians crossing and Isuzu Elf car passengers beside the driver, and two victims suffered serious injuries, namely the Isuzu Elf driver and the passenger.

"Officers are still investigating the cause of the deadly accident that caused the death of two victims on Jalan Raya, Rowotengah Village, Sumberbaru District," he said.
