May 1st Day Join Papua To The Republic Of Indonesia, Regional Secretary Asks Customary Heads To Participate In Maintaining Conduciveness

JAKARTA - Regional Secretary (Sekda) of Jayapura Regency Hana S Hikoyabi asked the public to maintain peace in Papua on May 1, 2024. He emphasized that Papua is an integral part of the Republic of Indonesia.

May 1 is a celebration of Papua's integration to join the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia, but the group opposite Indonesia calls it an annexation day.

"For this reason, all Papuans in Jayapura Regency must maintain the sovereignty of the nation by not doing things that are not desirable," said Hana at Sentani, Jayapura Regency, Papua Province, Tuesday, April 30, which was confiscated by Antara.

According to him, traditional community leaders, ondofolo and tribal chiefs are to maintain the security conditions of order in Jayapura Regency.

"Ondofolo and its tribal chiefs should appeal to their people not to hold demonstrations or anything that could disturb the comfort of the general public," he said.

He explained that Wednesday, May 1, it was still a working day or a busy day so that no activities should interfere with public order.

"The Jayapura Police must secure every community member who deliberately takes actions that interfere with the activities of the general public," he said.

He added that May 1 is also known as an international labor day or may day so that activities that can be carried out are only related to the interests of workers.

"So outside of the labor agenda, the security forces can secure it because it can interfere with other public interests and we must protect this district together," he said.
