JAKARTA - Chairman of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK), Firli Bahuri, assesses that women have a big role in combating corruption in the country. He conveyed this to commemorate World Women's Day which falls on Monday, March 8, or today.

"Not a few Indonesian women have the courage to vote and challenge corrupt behavior and corruption crimes, even though they involve friends, relatives, and family members," Firli said in a written statement to journalists, Monday, March 8.

He said there was a lot of support given by women to eradicate corruption. In fact, reports of information related to corruption received by the KPK are often submitted by women.

"Countless support and information along with evidence provided to us by anti-corruption heroines, accelerating and burning our fighting spirit," he said.

The KPK has even turned women into agents of racial eradication through the "I Am An Anti-Corruption Woman" (SPAK) program. Firli said, through this program, it is hoped that women can participate in eradicating racial attitudes in Indonesia.

"SPAK agents consist of various backgrounds of women, ranging from housewives, activists, teachers, to women with careers in the government and private sector, as well as the wives of state officials whose husbands are very vulnerable to being exposed to the corruption virus," he said.

The former Deputy for Corruption Eradication of the KPK asked the SPAK program not to be underestimated. This is because women who become agents in the program can provide anti-corruption lessons slowly, but surely.

One of them is by instilling an anti-corruption culture from an early age, in the family, in the environment. In fact, continued Firli, these women dare to remind friends that their husbands stay away from corrupt practices.

"This is an example of the little things SPAK agents do," said Firli.

Furthermore, Firli asked women in Indonesia to continue working in eradicating corruption. Including those, who joined the SPAK program.

"The high patience like a mother is shown by SPAK agents throughout the country, (hopefully, ed) will become an example and trigger of all efforts to eradicate corruption in the world, especially in Indonesia," he concluded.
