Cairo - Egypt on Thursday called for increased international efforts to create conditions for the completion of the first phase of US President Donald Trump's peace plan for the Gaza Strip and activating the second phase.

The call was made during a meeting in Cairo between Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty and the EU envoy for the Middle East, Christophe Bigot.

"The foreign minister stressed the importance of "refocusing international efforts on the Palestinian issue to create conditions for the full implementation of the first phase of the plan and moving to the second phase," the Egyptian Foreign Ministry said in a statement, quoted by Anadolu (26/6).

"This requires ensuring a sustainable flow of humanitarian assistance to Gaza and creating the conditions necessary for early recovery and reconstruction," he added.

The ministry further said that the talks between Abdelatty and Bigot discussed ongoing efforts to enable the National Committee for Gaza Administration to carry out its duties from within the territory.

"The minister stressed the importance of providing the necessary international support to ensure the success of the committee's work and accelerate the deployment of international stabilization forces to monitor the ceasefire," the ministry said.

In September 2025, President Trump announced a 20-point plan outlining a framework for a ceasefire that included the release of all Israeli prisoners in exchange for Palestinian prisoners, Israel's withdrawal from Gaza, the formation of a technocratic government, and the deployment of an international stabilization force, along with a call for Hamas to disarm.

The first phase of the agreement includes a ceasefire and prisoner exchange between Israel and Palestinian factions, a permanent ceasefire, and Israel's gradual withdrawal from the territory.

However, Israel continues to violate the agreement almost every day.

In the second phase, Israel is expected to carry out further withdrawals from the area, while international stabilization forces will take over security responsibilities, including facilitating the delivery of humanitarian aid and reconstruction materials.

The Israeli genocide war in Gaza since October 2023 has killed more than 73,000 Palestinians and injured more than 173,000 people, mostly women and children, according to Palestinian data.
