One Person Dies in the Fire of the KMP Putri Yasmin Ship in the Lombok Strait

JAKARTA - A joint SAR team managed to evacuate 172 survivors and one person died in the KMP Putri Yasmin fire disaster in the waters of the Lombok Strait.

Head of the Mataram SAR Office, Muhamad Hariyadi, emphasized that the joint SAR team continued to intensify the search and handling of victims after a passenger ship caught fire in the waters of the Lombok Strait, Wednesday morning at 04.15 WITA.

"Based on the provisional data confirmed at the SAR Post to date, the total number of victims who have been successfully evacuated has reached 173 people. Of these, 172 people were declared safe, while one person was reported dead," he said as quoted by ANTARA, Wednesday, August 12.

In optimizing the search and evacuation process, the SAR Team deployed various main tools, namely KN SAR 220 Mataram and KN SAR Arjuna, SGi Air Bali Helicopter, KMP Portlink II, KAL Lembar, and Yacht "No Comment" and "Still Here", Speedboat Polairud, Rigid Inflatable Boat (RIB), and Rigid Buoyancy Boat (RBB).

Meanwhile, the elements involved from the Mataram SAR Office and the Denpasar SAR Office, SGi Air Bali with the support of Finns Search and Rescue, TNI AL, Ditpolairud Polda NTB and West Lombok Police, Syahbandar Lembar Port, KMP PortLink II, KMP Parama Kalyani and the yacht crew, medical team, local community and other related institutions.

Hariya said the joint SAR team in the field was still in full alert status. The main focus at this time is to ensure that all victims, both passengers and ship crew, receive quick and optimal medical treatment and evacuation.

"Our main focus at this time is to ensure the safety of all passengers and crew on board," he said.

According to him, the joint SAR team is still conducting a search around the scene to anticipate the possibility of other victims who may not have been evacuated. We are also coordinating intensively with all related elements to accelerate the emergency handling process.

"We will continue to update the data periodically as the search and evacuation process progresses in the field," he said.
