JAKARTA - Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture (Menko PMK) Muhadjir Effendy revealed the poverty and extreme poverty rates in Indonesia for the period 2022-2023. "Based on the results of a socio-economic survey or Susenas March 2023 conducted by the Central Statistics Agency or BPS, the national poverty rate reached 9.36 percent, while the RPJMN target for 2020-2024 was set at 6.5 to 7.5 percent," said Muhadjir. to meet the target, the government must issue a special policy or program in ministries, institutions, and local governments. Meanwhile, extreme poverty is still at 1.12 percent in March 2023. This figure decreases when compared to March 2022 which reached 2.04 percent. Even though there has been a decline, extreme poverty treatment still does not meet the target given by President Joko Widodo (Jokowi). "We must continue to strive so that the zero percent target based on Presidential Decree number 4 of 2022 can be realized in 2024," said Muhadjir.

It is said, the calculation of the poverty rate in Indonesia uses an expenditure approach. With this method, the national poverty line is obtained at around Rp. 554,458 per capita per month. "With the composition of the food poverty line of 408,522 or 74.21 percent and the non-food poverty line of 141,936 or 25.79 percent," said Muhadjir.
