KPK Public Prosecutor Not Present, PK Session Convicted Former Chancellor Of Unila Karomani Postponed

JAKARTA - The Judicial Review Session (PK) for the bribery case for accepting new students (PMB) at the University of Lampung (Unila) in 2022 with the convict Karomani being postponed.

The delay was due to the absence of the Public Prosecutor (JPU) from the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK).

"Because the prosecutor was not present, we postponed the trial," said Chief Justice Hendro Wicaksono during a trial at the Tanjungkarang District Court, Bandar Lampung, Tuesday, April 2, which was confiscated by Antara.

The agenda for the trial is planned to read the application. At the trial, the convict of the former Unila Chancellor, Karomani, was present and accompanied by his legal adviser, Ahmad Handoko.

"Today, we should have read the PK application from us, but the KPK prosecutor did not attend. We do not know why it did not attend. Hopefully this trial will run smoothly," said Ahmad Handoko.

He continued that there were several notes in the PK submission. Among them are related to the decision that his party still believes that the incident that was charged against Karomani was a gratification incident that should have been article 11 of the Corruption Crime Law as stated in the second indictment, not Article 12 related to bribery.

"So this is the basis for us to propose a PK so that it can be reviewed by the Supreme Court regarding decisions and state losses. Moreover, the money did not go into private pockets, but was used to build the Lampung Nahdiyin Center (LNC) Building to then be handed over to NU," he said.

Previously, on Thursday, May 25, 2023, the former Chancellor of the University of Lampung (Unila) Karomani was sentenced by the Tanjungkarang District Court, Bandarlampung to 10 years in prison.

Apart from being sentenced to ten years, Karomani was also sentenced to a replacement fee of Rp. 8,075 billion.
