First Time In 52 Years Newcastle Wins At Old Trafford

JAKARTA - Newcastle United added to Manchester United's suffering. The Magpies silenced the Red Devils 2-0 at Old Trafford in Week 19 of the Premier League, Tuesday, December 31, 2024, early morning WIB.

Alexander Isak made the hosts silent in the fourth minute. He scored with his header using an accurate cross from Lewis Hall.

It was Isak's 11th goal in 11 games. He has scored more goals in the Premier League in December 2024 than any other player with eight goals.

Newcastle doubled their lead in the 19th minute in almost the same way. Anthony Gordon sent Joelinton's cross.

The victory not only made Newcastle move up to fifth in the Premier League standings with 32 points, but also made history.

For the first time in 52 years, The Magpies won at Old Trafford. The last time Newcastle won at Manchester United headquarters was in 1972.

Finally on the 40th visit, they could win second at Old Trafford.

"We know that this match has historically not benefited us, it hasn't lost to us."

"We don't specifically use it (historic record) to the players, but it's a big step forward for us today."

"I think we need to win a game like this to achieve what we want regularly," said Newcastle Manager Eddie Howe.

This is also the first time since 1979 Manchester United have lost three consecutive league games at home.
