Garbage In South Kalimantan Sungup TPA Piles Up, Regent Instructs DLH Dredges Using Heavy Equipment

JAKARTA - Kotabaru Regent Sayed Jafar instructed the Environment Agency (DLH) to deploy heavy equipment to deal with piles of garbage at the Final Disposal Site (TPA) of Sungup Village, Pulau Laut Tengah District, South Kalimantan (Kalsel).

"TPA needs to be managed properly so that it is neat and not scattered and arranged optimally," he said in Kotabaru, South Kalimantan, Friday, March 8, as reported by Antara.

He said the Sungup TPA was still able to accommodate waste for the next few years.

As a first step, Sayed said that the accumulated waste should be transported to the end of the land boundary which will be used as excavation.

"The land from the excavation for roads around the TPA is easy to manage," he said.

He wants the excavated land to be made a road as well as a traveling road to facilitate access to further waste disposal.

In addition to the waste management site, Sayed also requested that the entrance park from the highway to the waste disposal be be beautified and arranged to a neat level in order to add aesthetic value.

The head of DLH Kotabaru Regency, Maulidiansyah, revealed that the location area of the Sungup TPA reaches 20 hectares.

The Kotabaru Regency Government plans to dig the Sungup TPU to organize and design the disposal site so that it can accommodate waste optimally.

Land excavations at the Sungup TPA are used to hoard and load waste with a size of 100x120 meters as a step to manage further waste disposal.
