39 Times Of Aftershocks Have Been Recorded Centered In Bayah Banten

JAKARTA - The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) reported 39 aftershocks centered in the Southwest Sea of Bayah, Banten as of this afternoon.

Head of the BMKG Earthquake and Tsunami Center Daryono said the aftershocks had a magnitude of M2.8 M5.1 at a depth of 10 kilometers 23 kilometers southwest of Bayah.

From the information received by the earthquake's tremors, it was previously felt until the Surade, Tanjung Lesung, Pelabuhan Ratu, and several areas of DKI Jakarta. The vibrations felt were on the MMI II intensity scale or vibrations were felt by several people, light objects that were hung swayed. "The earthquake zone and its follow-up series are currently close to the epicenter that damaged Banten and West Java with a magnitude of Mw7.9 on 27 February 1903," said Daryono.

According to him, the results of the analysis of the source mechanism show that the earthquake has an upward movement mechanism or thrust fault which is a reflection of the megathrust Earthquake However, his party ensures that after paying attention to the location of the epicenter and the depth of the hypocenter, the earthquake is a shallow earthquake and has no potential for a tsunami.

Previously, the Head of the Geological Agency of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources Muhammad Wafid revealed that the deposits of quaternary and tertiary rock that experienced weathering strengthened the effects of earthquake-vulnerable shocks in the southern waters of Banten.

On Sunday (25/2) there were two quite large shocks; the first earthquake occurred at 20.07 WIB with a magnitude of 5.7 at a depth of 23 kilometers. Then, the second earthquake shook with a magnitude of 5.1 at 22.04 WIB.
